A poll released Monday, April 6, by IMEU Policy Project and conducted by Data for Progress found that not only did the vast majority of voters in Texas’ March 3 Democratic primary for U.S. Senate agree that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza (76%) and support ending weapons funding to Israel (80%), but that voters were swayed to support James Talarico over Rep. Jasmine Crockett due to his comments calling for weapons restrictions to Israel.

88% of poll respondents said they agree with James Talarico’s debate statement that “I would not vote to send weapons to Netanyahu which he is currently using to slaughter children.” Voters who say they were familiar with Talarico’s comments on Israel said they were more likely to vote for Talarico over Crockett by a 4:1 margin, 35% to 8%. 44% of Talarico voters said his willingness to criticize Israel was important to them and swayed their vote toward him.

MORE KEY FINDINGS:

  • Over one in five voters (22%) said reducing support for Israel was a top-three factor in their vote, while just 2% said increasing or maintaining support for Israel was a top-three factor.

  • Reducing support for Israel will also be a factor in the November general election. 15% of Democratic primary voters say they would not vote in November if the Democratic nominee shares an identical platform of unconditional support for Israel as the Republican candidate. Just 1% of these voters say they would sit out the general election if the Democratic nominee supports reducing support to Israel.

A poll released in December by IMEU Policy Project and conducted by YouGov, found that a majority of Republicans under age 45 wanted to reduce taxpayer-funded support to Israel, and that Democrats who supported restricting support to Israel were able to win over a significant portion of Republican voters. A September 2025 YouGov poll released by IMEU Policy Project and Gen-Z For Change also found Democratic voters were much more likely to sit out a general election if a Democrat who prioritizes support for Israel were on the ballot.
